victims of faith

Painting Synopsis:

00:00 / 02:30

Evoking the vibrancy of the work of American colorist, Piet Mondrian, the fluidity of line and clarity of intention of the German Maestro, Paul Klee, “Victims of Faith,” painted in 2003, assimilates modernist elements into a post-modern style that meets all the progressive main stream criteria while projecting a highly subjective sense of African identity. Employing an incandescent palette, comprised of scintillating oranges, vivacious tones of adobe red, a spirited range of earthly sienna and shades of purple and celestial blues, Nya’ skillfully narrates and unconventionally arrays the theme of faith in a dignified manner that intently captures the essence without being predictable, pretentious, simplistic, or obvious.

The two dominating figures in the foreground of the composition, composed of cut-out paper and frozen in a jubilant dance highlight the victory of faith over fear, right over wrong, good over evil, and light over darkness.

In essence, the consistent application and practice of the principles of faith (alluded to in the composition by the numbers 2;3;4;5 and 7) in an atmosphere of praise sustained in abiding in the knowledge and understanding of the precepts of creation and obedience to the Creator’s divine and supernatural laws has caused the figures to emerge victorious over the dark season of shame and reproach partially alluded to by the disappearing pencil figures and charcoal renderings of the broken violin.
